Laura Hans: Her smile welcomes you!

As we continue our series of People of Princeton Yoga we are excited to introduce some of our staff.

Laura lights up our welcome desk with her extremely kind, helpful and down to earth attitude. Her lively presence and smile is treasured by clients as well as teachers and staff. From making the members of our community feel welcome, to making sure our props are neatly arranged, we know that we can count of her for anything and everything!

How did you find Princeton Yoga?

I moved to Skillman 6 1/2 years ago.  I knew that one of the first things I needed to find in my new area was a yoga studio.  PCYH was located about 500 feet from my house.  My daughter-in-law gave me a gift certificate to PCYH because she knew how important yoga was to me.  I was very nervous and reluctant to go to a new studio after practicing at the same studio for 11 years.  But, it was a great class and I never looked back.

What drew you to volunteering at Princeton Yoga?

I retired about a year after moving to Skillman and was looking for some extra activities to fill some new spare time that I found myself with.  I saw a notice on the PCYH website about volunteering, made a phone call to the studio and the following week I was being trained at the front desk.  I truly look forward to my morning at the front desk each week.

Share your favorite experience you’ve had at Princeton Yoga.

My favorite experience was a Thanksgiving class a few years ago.  There were about 50 people in the class.  It was very invigorating and energetic.  The euphoric feeling that I had during that class stayed with me the entire day.  It was AWESOME!!

Do you practice yoga? If so, what are your favorite practices?

This is my 17th year practicing yoga.  I try to get to two or three classes a week.  I most enjoy gentle and moderate hatha yoga classes.

Do you have a favorite class at Princeton Yoga?

My favorite classes are Tuesday and Friday morning hatha (moderate) classes.

How have yoga and/or holistic practices affected your life?

Yoga has helped to keep me more grounded.  It has also helped me to appreciate all that is good in my life and not to sweat the small stuff.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

There is a great sense of community among the people (both teachers and students) at PCYH.  When I walk into a class, I know most people by name and they know me as well.  Since I mostly take morning classes, yoga is a wonderful start to my day.  I also appreciate the donation classes.  Last year my daughter participated in a 200 mile bike ride for breast cancer in young women.  The studio made a donation to her cause and was much appreciated.

Try out one of Laura’s favorite classes:

Hatha (Moderate)

Tuesdays, 9:30 -10:45 am with Dan Fernandez
Friday, 9:30 -11:00 am with Denise Corsini

Medium pace with fairly long holds for each pose.
What to expect:
These classes integrate physical yoga poses (asanas), breath work (pranayama), philosophy, and relaxation. Teachers sequence each class intelligently and creatively, and guide the students through optimal alignment in each pose. The poses that are taught are moderate to challenging.
Is this class right for you?
Some experience is recommended; however variations and modifications are offered so that each student is both accommodated and challenged.
